English Marking is Subjective
One common criticism of VCE English marking is that it is inherently subjective. This means that different assessors may interpret and evaluate the same piece of work differently, leading to inconsistencies in marking. As our Auliau student Wendy identified, your school teachers marking SACs can be very different to the examiners in the VCE final exams. So it is always good to seek feedback from various experienced English teachers.
Despite the subjectivity, there are some steps that students can take to overcome these issues and achieve a great VCE English or EAL mark!
- Understand the marking criteria
- Seek feedback from different teachers/assessors
- Practice!
